Rest day at sea

Day 10    At Sea       Sunday, August 3, 2014

I took zero photos on this day at sea. This picture is from a day later, but this is what it looked like with most people seeming to be hanging around the pool on our sunny hot day.
All four hot tubs were jammed with mostly kids. At some point during the day, Janet and I managed to squeeze into a hot tub for a while. Janet also read her book a lot, one she felt she had to hide so no one would see it - 50 Shades of Grey. She had gotten it at our flat in Barcelona, when she told Ramon he could keep the book she had just finished for a future guest. He quickly pulled out 50 Shades from under some brochures and said she could take it in trade since someone else had left it for a future guest also.

When the day began, I looked out and saw the bottom of Italy in the distance. A few hours earlier we had sailed through the historic Straits of Messina. I wish we had done that during daylight, because I would have loved to have seen Mt. Etna and what it looked like through there.

I rode the stationary bike in the fitness room, and beyond that I don't remember much about the day other than we of course didn't miss any of the meals. For lunch they put on two outdoor BBQs. The one at the pool was a "Western BBQ" which we did not go to. We went to the other one which was a German/Bavarian Buffet at the ship's stern, complete with live oomp-pah music (by the ship's Showband). We sure enjoyed the Bavarian bratwursts, red cabbage, potato salad, and sacher torte dessert (among other items served on a cruise ship's buffet).

In the early afternoon we attended a wine-and-cheese affair for veteran Norwegian cruisers, held in the fore lounge on the 12th level where you get fabulous 180° views. Nice to get that free stuff!

I'm sure our dinner was great, but this photo also is from a different day. I just wanted a few pictures to put in for this day. I'm certain that on this night my dessert was lemon sorbet, since I had that every single night for dessert, plus most of whatever Janet ordered (usually she just asked me what I wanted her to order for my second dessert!). The stage show that night was a variety type by the Spirit Entertainment Cast. The pianist Michael did a Billy Joel tribute.

We knew we would want to depart the next morning as soon as we arrived in Mykonos at 7 am, because we hoped to get some free WiFi on the island and still have time for the beach during our short stay there. So, it was early to bed.
